Feeding the Needy – Annadhanam

The act of feeding food for the hungry and deprived is considered as an act of the highest virtue. Our trust provides food to anyone who walks in hungry to our premises in addition to the elders in the home. With the donor’s help, we will be able to meet our requirements to meet their needs.

Mobile Food Van

Starting Sept 2020, We have started a mobile food van project which will distribute free food to the needy on the roads. These are homeless people or economically backward. This food van will run every saturday and cover around 700-800 people. We will distribute food along with water bottles. We request volunteers and donors to support our cause to the best extent possible. From Nov 15th 2023 we are planning to extend the Homeless people annadanam on Wedneday’s too. So every week Saturday and Wednesday our food van will cover around 1500-1600  needy people per week.

Highlights

Sri Poorna Mahameru Trust has been involved in running free food programmes for the past 25 years. We provide free food to anyone who comes in hungry into our campus which includes labourers, sanitation workers, slum dwellers and people from all walks of life, without any discrimination whatsoever. Mobile vans are aimed to serve the homeless people or economically backward. Initially this food van will run one day per week, mostly on a weekend. We will distribute food along with water bottles. We request volunteers and donors to support our cause to the best extent possible. At present, we are constrained by the lack of customised vehicle fit for this purpose, exclusively dedicated for such service. This, together with the lack of consistent funding for this purpose, has affected the sustainability of this initiative.

We propose to have a Mobile food bank – A Vehicle (van or truck) customized for food distribution which has appropriate storage facilities. This vehicle can be driven specifically to hunger zones for providing free food to needy. This initiative would be the first of its kind in this region. The same vehicle can be used for collecting groceries or non-perishable items such as pastry or semi perishable materials like vegetables, contributed by donors all over the region. This will provide a means for interested donors to involve in charity at their doorstep, thereby satiating their hunger to contribute to the society while also serving the needy.
